The new Barry Curtis Park playground has received the 2026 recreation Aotearoa Parks Award – Playspace of the Year (over $500k). It is a large-scale inclusive destination playground developed in collaboration with local Iwi Ngāi Tai Ki Tāmaki and the Howick Local Board.
Airey Consultants are proud to have been involved in the structural design of the playground, including its striking twin towers which provide inclusive play for Tamariki of all ages and abilities, while also providing challenging , high impact play experiences for those seeking a challenge. Airey provided engineering services in collaboration with Playground People, who played a key role in designing, manufacturing, and installing most of the equipment within the destination playspace and its surroundings.
Every element has been designed to build strength, coordination and confidence, creating a playground that remains energetic, engaging and high-use.
